Winning Over Republicans

Our commitment to Hoosier Republicans is real.  They are not “deplorables”.  They are our uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, friends and co-workers. For the most part, they want and care about what we want and care about - a decent job, a safe community, a hopeful future and opportunity for their kids, clean air and water, and less hate and divisiveness. They aren’t happy with what the Republican Party has become, but they have a hard time looking at the Democratic Party and seeing themselves reflected in it.

It hasn’t always been that way. It wasn’t that long ago when these folks - conservative in many ways - did relate to the Democratic Party and saw their own values, concerns, and struggles reflected there.  Andy appreciates these Hoosiers. He understands them. He values them. He’s a strong progressive candidate with an old-school, rural kind of bent. He’s a different kind of Hoosier Democrat with a platform in tune with regular Indiana families.

Sometimes our messaging won’t seem “politically correct”.  This campaign is about authenticity, and it understands that reality for different people is nuanced and contextual. We believe in radical free speech and we believe that Hoosier voters will find that to be honest and exciting. We don’t believe in false dichotomies. We are not afraid of sensitive topics.

We might surprise you. Don’t get offended when we defy what have become standard left boundaries. And please remember to invite your conservative friends to take a look at our campaign.

Many Democrats we have spoken to have been hesitant to donate, asking us how we plan to flip Republican voters, recognizing that we need the votes of some of them to win.  The only answer is that we intend to actually listen to and represent them.

Saying that isn't actually radical.

We have more in common as Hoosiers than cable news would have you believe. Turn off the TV “news”. Neither Hannity nor Maddow have the answers we need to get Indiana and our nation back on the rails. We need to come together and work together for our common interests, and that requires respecting and understanding rather than dismissing those we mistakenly believe are so clueless and different from us.

Trey Hollingsworth might seem like a formidable opponent, but he’s not. Just rolling over and letting him win because he’s so rich and because he’s a Republican -- well, I can’t think of anything more cynical.

Affirm your commitment to our truly grassroots Hoosier campaign. Choose optimism. Choose the local guy.
