What is a 'Hoosier Progressive?'

Neighbors,

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m a progressive with Hoosier values.

What does that mean? Well, my approach to the economy is designed for ordinary, working-class people. I believe in fighting inequality.

Trey Hollingsworth, a multi-millionaire from a billionaire family, has never thought about what it’s like to be a part of the shrinking middle class in his life.

Healthcare should be accessible and affordable. Going to the emergency room, getting a cancer diagnosis or having an unexpected operation shouldn’t bankrupt Hoosier families. Nursing home and end-of-life care shouldn’t eat up your life savings.

Trey Hollingsworth will never understand what it’s like to have to choose to wait a month to see your primary physician because an emergency room visit could ruin your retirement.

Going to college should not make indentured servants of young people. Too many Millennials can’t save for homes or retirement. They invested in education, told they would get a good return, only to face The Great Recession and the COVID-19 financial crisis. Over 52% of the most educated generation in U.S. history now live with their parents.

Trey Hollingsworth’s father paid his way into Wharton, then bought him a company after he graduated.

Workers in the cities and suburbs of Indiana’s 9th District are struggling. There’s a housing crisis in Bloomington. Unemployment has skyrocketed in the suburbs of Clark, Floyd and Johnson counties.

Trey Hollingsworth wants Hoosiers to “get back to work” during COVID because maintaining his “way of life” is more important than “loss of American lives.”

Some people manage to get ahead despite these challenges, and I’m happy for them. But the rest of us are falling behind through no fault of our own. Despite what Trey Hollingsworth would have us believe, people can’t get by on mere ambition.

My platform is about securing a decent standard of living for Hoosier families and guaranteeing everyone a fair shot at the American Dream. Hardworking Hoosiers have been getting short-ended for a very long time. My candidacy addresses the problems these folks face every single day, whether they lean Democratic, Republican or something else.
