RNCC: Whaaat the H Did I Just Watch?
I’m no shill for the Democratic Party. When necessary as a city councilman, I’ve stood against it. I don’t agree with the whole 2020 Democratic platform. But I’ll tell you, last week’s convention made me proud to call myself Democrat.
The Democratic Convention was a good-faith effort to come together and consider all perspectives. Its vision was realistic, hopeful and unifying across party lines, the political equivalent of a therapy session, followed by a group hug.
Boy, was it needed.
Contrast that to the Republicans. This year, they didn’t even bother with a platform. Instead, the RNC passed a resolution which simply stated it “enthusiastically supports President Trump.” In other words, whatever Donald Trump says and does, the Republican Party now officially sanctions it.
This is the platform my opponent Trey Hollingsworth wholeheartedly supports.
I watched the disturbing first night of the Republican Convention. The many un-American displays of fealty to the president were concerning enough. Equally as troubling was the crude and divisive picture Republicans tried to paint of our country, a vision detached from reality, a nightmare haunted by communist boogeymen and “mobs” out to destroy the suburbs.
Most shocking was the brazen attempt to rewrite the factual history of the pandemic response, in which Republican insistence that Americans “get back to work” led us to more infections and deaths than anywhere else on the planet. Republicans honestly want us to believe that the White House handling of COVID-19 was *perfect* and saved millions of lives. How dumb do they think we are?
The president and Republican enablers like Hollingsworth downplayed the threat from the beginning, scoffed at mask-wearing until just a few weeks ago, pushed for an aggressive reopening without a plan for how to do it safely or support those most vulnerable. Meanwhile, the virus grew. It now claims the lives of 1,000 of our countrymen and women each day.
This is the real dystopian nightmare.
Folks, I don’t need to tell you how urgent this is. Voting begins October 6 and ends November 3. Our campaign has made a lot of progress in our 9th District with our unifying message, one based around collective Hoosier interest, but we need your help. Share our content, talk to your friends and neighbors. Help us show the rest of IN-09 what Hoosier representation looks like!
